Elkins Constructors, Inc. Wins Associated Builders and Contractors Project of the Year Award

Jacksonville, Florida - Elkins Constructors, Inc. won the coveted Project of the Year Award, the construction industry's highest honor, at the Associated Builders and Contractors annual Excellence in Construction Awards program for the Clay County Courthouse Addition & Renovation Project.

Completed by Elkins Constructors in December 2007, the Clay County Courthouse Addition & Renovation project included a new 89,000 square foot addition to the existing courthouse. The four story annex includes provisions for eight new state-of-the-art courtrooms (four shelled/four build out), holding cells, eight judicial chambers, and consolidated offices for the Clerk of Court, as well as building support spaces. Renovation work in the existing 74,000 square foot courthouse included the redesign of the State Attorney, Public Defender, and miscellaneous court support spaces. Elkins also updated existing façades to match the new annex. Approximately 360 new parking spaces were provided both onsite and in an adjacent lot to serve the expanded courthouse.

The project team's natural ability to work together in a true partnership created an environment that was conducive to problem solving. Each challenge that presented itself before, during, and after construction was met with a united front and solved quickly. This working relationship between the owner, users, design team, and construction staff allowed the team to achieve the perfect synergy of cost, schedule, quality, and client service.
