Elkins Constructors, Inc. Announces Leadership Changes

Jacksonville, Florida - Elkins Constructors, Inc. has named Matt Welch as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Jacksonville-based construction company.

Welch’s promotion from Executive Vice President to President became effective January 1. Welch succeeds former President Barry Allred, who remains the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Welch joined Elkins as a project manager in 1984. He is the company’s third president in its 52-year history following Allred and the company founder, Martin Elkins. Welch’s career with Allred goes back to 1980, when Allred hired Welch as an assistant project manager for another company.

“Barry will focus his attention on community relations and business development while I will be responsible for the tactical, daily operations of the business,” said Welch.

Also effective January 1, Joe Newell was promoted to Chief Financial Officer. The responsibilities of the CFO were held by Allred prior to Newell’s promotion.

After 23 years of service to the company, Senior Vice President of Retail Mike McMurray retired December 31, 2007. Vice President of Retail Rob Crowe now leads the division, which builds retail stores for Lowe’s Home Improvement, Kohl’s and Wal-Mart, among others.

Elkins Constructors ranked No. 4 on the Jacksonville Business Journal’s 2007 list of largest commercial contractors, based on 2006 billings of $235 million. The company is ranked by Engineering News & Record as one of the nation’s Top 400 Contractors and a Top 50 Green Building Contractor.

Founded in Jacksonville in 1955, Elkins Constructors is an employee-owned construction company that builds a wide range of commercial and institutional projects throughout the Southeast.
